At 9.29am, the ringgit was quoted at 3.1470/1500 against the greenback from 3.1325/1356 Friday. Dealers said traders were reluctant to hold major position in riskier assets after Standard & Poor's mass downgrade of euro zone countries late last week showed a gloomy global economic outlook.
Against other major currencies, the ringgit was traded higher against the Singapore dollar at 2.4301/4334 from 2.4334/4364 Friday but weakened against the yen at 4.0923/0984 compared with 4.0846/0897 Friday.
The ringgit depreciated against the British pound to 4.8111/8160 from 4.8084/8141 Friday and was lower against the euro at 4.9743/9794 from 4.0268/0314 last week.
